miss amandas birthday stuffs

there were 2 birthdays this month that required excessive artwork from yours truly. the first was my mamas (i will post her stuff on wednesday or thursday this week) and amandas. the both got a cut paper card and a painting. these are amandas.  the card is a tiger whose ear pulls out with the message inside. the painting is a monkey which also happened to be the first of well over 100 animals i drew for her whilst flirting at work (unbeknownst to her for quite awhile apparently...) i find both quite cute and fairly successful. she also got 2 seasons of parks and rec on dvd and the pawnee book by leslie knope. spoiled, huh?
(sorry about the poor quality pics. my camera is currently sans sd card so i made do)

see you all soon,

gator boy early versions

the other night at work i decided i wanted to draw a pudgy little alligator fellow. so i did. and he actually turned out pretty great. i have the original sketch and then it with the details on it. i plan on doing a fully colored version soon and shall post it as well. this idea may have stemmed from a friend making me watch swamp people in which a bunch of rednecks go around shooting alligators. i feel like this guy could talk his way out of a .22 to the back of the head...

elephantastic

a painting was requested of me some time ago but no subject was specified. as such i did nothing out of irritation but then i decided, elephant! so i did a drawing at work and then i decided to do it up digital style before i waste a canvas and paint and so much of my suuuuuper valuable time. so heres the pencil drawing and the digital version. perhaps the final painting will be posted at a later date as well.

papa's day present 2011

so obviously this post is slightly delayed...
I mistakenly began the trend of coming up with adorable parental observation day gifts several years ago and have since outdone myself every time but i might have hit the top with this one. i found these cheap mod figures at target in 2 packs for 5 bucks and bought several sets. while staring at the blank figures i decided it would be adorable to make figures of me and my pops for my fathers day gift this year. now, my outfit is pretty self explanatory as i live in my hoodies. however, for those of you who have never set foot in my parents house after 9 pm for the last 15 years, my dads get up might be a mystery. as a chronic insomniac my dad spends much of his evenings reading books. and eating large bowls of cereal. while wearing nothing but a bath robe and his underpants.  as such this is how many of mine and my sisters friends came to recognize him. as such i got an assist from my adorable girlfriend to stitch a tiny bath robe to cover his little undies. also note the matching wagner butt crack. 2 posts in 1 night? i'm telling you i'm going to be good about this bloggery again... probably...

Turtle hearts pig

Here's a commission I did recently for a friend from work. His favorite animal is a turtle and his girlfriend loves pigs. He asked me to draw a turtle... playing guitar... for a pig. So here it is. It's a little intimidating to draw a pig representing someone's lady friend so I tried to make it extra cute. I think it turned out pretty cute. If you ever want to hire someone for an awesome one of a kind piece of art... ;)

Stoughton Stuff

Hey folks. So I recently did a couple illustrations for bar crawls in Stoughton. You may recall the drunken troll a while back, well here's the final illustration and the other is 2 beer steins that resemble the Stoughton clock tower. I'll be posting a commission I recently finished as well as photos of my super awesome father's day present shortly.

self portrait type drawings

Self-portraits are always a fun way to waste some time and try out new styles or media. I usually dont look at myself when doing them because I have a few attributes I like to play up and see how it goes (i.e. big bald head and beard) Here's a few samples of me drawing me. More posts to follow soon (sorry for the delays!)

BONUS-TYPE POST!

Hey everybody, here's a little bonus post. One of my favorite illustrations that I decided to clean up for my portfolio. The original title was "Polar Opposition" (because I realize polar bears and penguins don't coexist) (and because its moderately clever).
Enjoy.

troll update

I posted a first sketch of a drunk troll a few days ago and got some feedback from the client and reworked it over the last 2 days. Here's what it looks like now. I think he's pretty fun and I hope he'll be the final one for this.  I'll post the finished design when I get through with that too...

Also, as you peruse the animal drawings, if any animals comes to mind that I haven't done yet or done right, let me know because some times its tough coming up with animals on the fly and I love suggestions.

Now to start some paintings for Mother's Day because I am such a good little boy....

Ooh, it's been a while since I posted here. I feel bad. Truly. But the portfolio show ate up all my time and then all my ambition and energy after the fact. Here's a quick post to start this thing rolling again. This was a draft of a drawing of a drunk troll for a freelance job I'm working on. I'll be back with more animals and other stuff soooooon!

Part-Time WereWolf

A few years back I was sitting in my cube at work trying to come up with a concept for an old school pulp sci-fi comic cover to do and kept coming back to the images of aliens/robots/monsters carrying off a damsel in distress. So, my weird thought was "what if these monsters went about courting these women the proper way?" and drew an awkward nervous looking werewolf waiting on his date in her apartment hallway. Its still one of my favorite concepts and drawings. I came up with the name Part-Time WereWolf because he was A) always a werewolf, and B) always working full-time so this name sounded funny and had a stupid story behind it. Soon I started sketching covers of PTWW in random real world situations with a bad pun for a title and a ridiculous blurb about the issue. Recently I went back and finished my favorite of the covers digitally and I plan on doing at least a few more in a similar fashion. So here I present the original cover, the sketch and final version of "Fear the Underdog".

Original Concept Cover for PTWW "Lovesick Lunatic" or "A Date for Dinner"

Original Cover drawing for "Fear the Underdog". The pose still makes me laugh as that is how a half-man half-canine would try and catch a football, right?

Final version of PTWW 27 "Fear the Underdog" I am quite proud of how this turned out.
